SPELLING TIPS

1. Read aloud to your child. Don't be afraid to talk about the book's words -- how they sound, what they mean.*
2. Share poetry, songs, and storybooks with rhymes. Play with words and stress sounds in them.
3. Encourage writing at home. Grocery lists, greeting cards, signs, and labels are all good projects for developing writers -- even if you can't always read their spelling.

* The information and text for this list comes from Instructor, November/December 1997.
